Dancewear and hair styles for recital
Jump to Accessory Charts
Showcase time is one of the busiest and most exciting times at Pegasus! We believe that the opportunity to perform allows dancers to develop their confidence, teamwork skills, and work ethic all while increasing their dance technique and artistry skills. But all of this can be stressful! This page is here to help you and your family have a positive Showcase experience. Please ask us any questions!

SHOWCASE THEME
This year's showcase theme is Dances with Nature! Each year we choose a new theme for our Showcases. This gives the teachers a focused idea to build on in their classes and explore through the choreography. This year's theme focuses on elements of nature and the growth that we have all had over the past year as we returned to our dance classes with less restrictions and more excitement.

SHOWCASE T-SHIRT
As in past anniversary years, this year's t-shirt is required for the finale. If you choose not to purchase an anniversary shirt, please wear a plain black shirt.  To purchase shirts please use the online shop https://pegasus-dance2023.itemorder.com/shop/home/  by Monday April 4,  2022. Please visit our reception desk for sample sizes.

SENIOR SHOWCASE EXPERIENCE
The Senior Showcases are held offsite to provide students with a professional performance experience. The Meridian Centre for the Arts allows our dancers to perform in a venue with a professional stage and backstage space, supported by technicians and high-quality performance equipment.
Showcases are a great opportunity for our dancers to develop their performance skills and gain invaluable experience in front of an audience, whether they choose to continue as a dance professional or simply to stand in front of a group of people to deliver a speech, presentation, or any other form of performance.
Working on showcase choreography is a team effort and all dancers must be committed to their class as fellow students and teachers help create an amazing piece to perform!

A NOTE ABOUT ATTENDANCE
Attendance at this stage in preparing for the Showcases is vital to a positive performance experience. Students who miss more than 3 classes after March Break may be unable to perform with their class. It is at the teacher's discretion whether a student with 3 absences may still perform.

LOCATION Meridian Centre for the Arts - Lyric Theatre - 5040 Yonge St Toronto ON M2N 6R8

DROP OFF Dancers are to be dropped off at the stage door entrance on the south side of the building.

LUNCH Dancers are welcome to stay in the theatre with Pegasus staff over the lunch break. Please bring a packed lunch and drink with you. Note that we will not have access to a microwave and that we have a strict no nuts policy. All dancers, regardless of age, wishing to go out for lunch must provide a parent note at drop off.

PICK UP Dancers will exit into the lobby. Dancers 10 years and younger will be released to a parent at the front of the theatre. Dancers 11 years and older may leave on their own. We recommend setting a meeting spot with your dancer before the recital.

DRESS REHEARSALS  The Senior Showcase dancers have two mandatory rehearsals. First, our in-house Finale Costume Fitting Week (April 29 to May 4, 2023) will be a run through for costuming and to understand the technical requirements, such as lighting, entrances and exit cues.
The second dress rehearsal will take place on the morning of showcase day, June 3 or 4, and will take place in the theatre. This dress rehearsal will be done in running order with full lights and costumes. This traditional dress rehearsal allows performers to practice how the show will run, including fast changes, entering the stage in a blackout and the finale dance, as well as watching the rest of the show.
Both rehearsals are MANDATORY.

FINALE  The finale allows each dancer to take a bow and celebrate the amazing work they have put into preparing and performing their dance. We ask dancers to wear their Showcase t-shirt or a plain black t-shirt. The choreography will be taught in class.

COSTUMES Costumes for Senior Showcases are rented. We attempt to build the costumes around your dancer's class uniform, however, some costumes do not work worn over top of the uniform and require a beige bodysuit to be worn underneath.
We require either the beige bodysuit or the class uniform (see Accessory Charts below on this page or at Pegasus for your classes specific requirements) for your child's comfort backstage. As we do not have individual changing rooms for each dancer backstage, some dancers need to change in front of other people, especially if a fast change of costumes is involved. Wearing a bodysuit to the theatre gives dancers the ability to get changed wherever they need.
It is your responsibility to have all the proper uniform items and to be prepared on recital day with these items in good condition. You can find the accessory charts on this page as well as in the reception room with details of what your dancer needs to bring for the showcase as well as hairstyle requirements, and a hair kit for touch ups and minimal makeup if required.

A Note on Costumes: The Final Costume Fitting Week is a test run for all costumes and accessories and our last chance to address any costume issues. Please arrive in your required dancewear with any accessories needed;  see Accessory Charts for details and to confirm whether your class requires a skin tone bodysuit for under your costume. Attention to your child's hair, clean dancewear and shoes will make a difference to your pictures. Please come prepared for your child to shine.

SCHEDULE FOR PHOTO & FINAL COSTUME FITTING WEEK

However, due to the scheduling, some classes will need to begin early or run late. Please refer to the schedule online (will be posted shortly)  or posted in Pegasus for your specific class time.
