Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions...

Why are you more expensive than parks and recreation programs?

Our classes are more expensive than some other recreational dance classes in the East End due the high level of education we offer. Our teachers hold degrees and internationally recognized certification in teaching their art disciplines to children. We also follow syllabi that are designed to be developmentally appropriate for each age it works with, giving your child not only a fun experience in dance class, but a safe, supportive and high level of learning as well. Our fees are on par with dance schools that offer similar high standards.

Do I have to have a uniform?

Yes. We ask you to wear the uniform to all classes for three main reasons.
Respect for the discipline - dance teaches respect through the classroom etiquettes and the uniform is part of that.
Safety of dancers - teachers need to be able to see the muscles working in order to ensure nothing harmful is happening.
Recital - we often use the class uniform as a base for the costumes.
Visit our Dancewear & Uniform page for more details.

What is a ballet exam?

Ballet exams are special events that are hosted by the Royal Academy of Dance. Most often they happen in our studio and ballet students prepare the syllabus work to show to an examiner. Marked and unmarked exams are offered and students find them a positive goal to work towards. Visit the Ballet Exam page for more details.

Do you do competitions?

Generally we do not partake in dance competitions. We believe that every child has the ability to shine and do not believe in the process of being judged in front of a group of peers. We also have trouble matching our philosophies on appropriate costuming and dancing with many competition cultures. We carefully select a few competitions each year for our Performance Teams to participate in as a learning experience.

Do I have to buy a showcase costume?

Junior Showcase participants must purchase their showcase costumes. These costumes are the responsibilities of the families to bring to picture week and showcase. They are yours to keep.
Senior Showcase participants must rent their showcase costumes. Pegasus will be responsible for the organization, transportation and cleaning of these costumes.

Why do I have to buy showcase tickets?

Showcases cost money to produce and we charge a ticket fee to help cover that cost. For the Junior Showcases which are held at Pegasus Studios, we offer each family two complimentary tickets and charge for additional tickets to cover the chair rental costs. For Senior Showcases we charge for all tickets to help pay for the high cost of renting a professional theatre and technicians. We believe that the experience of being in a theatre space is worth the price, as it gives your child an important and invaluable performance experience.
