Senior Recital

The Senior Recital is held offsite to provide students with a more professional performance experience and to allow for the larger audience size. All senior dancers at Pegasus perform a choreographed piece with their class. The Senior Recital is a great opportunity for our dancers to develop their performance skills and gain invaluable experience in front of an audience, whether they choose to continue as a dance professional or simply to stand in front of a group of people to deliver a speech, presentation, or any other form of performance.

Costumes for the Senior Recital are provided free of charge. We implement a recycling program at Pegasus and do our best to recycle and reuse as many costumes as we can. We ask that each student be prepared to wear their class uniform or a skin toned body suit under their costume for the hygiene and privacy of dancers while backstage.

Senior Recital is a big event at Pegasus and we do our best to provide students and the audience with the most professional experience possible. Due to this goal we have several policies in place for dancers participating in the show. We ask that each student who commits to perform miss no more than three classes, once a teacher has begun choreography in class or their dress rehearsal. If a class or rehearsal must be missed the dancer and/or parent is asked to discuss the reason and the appropriate course of action with the teacher. When working on a piece for a show the dancers become a team and by missing classes the student is affecting the entire team, not just themselves.

Tickets for Senior Recital may be purchased from the Pegasus receptionist.

Senior Recital Dress Rehearsals
May 31 & June 1, 2012 – 4:30-9:00 pm

Dress rehearsals are a very important part of the process of preparing for the Senior Recital. Dancers perform offsite so it is important for the group to determine the spacing of their dance, get a feel for the size of the stage and auditorium, and have an opportunity to dance in their costumes before they perform in front of an audience. Dress rehearsals are the time for reconfiguring a dance if a student has an injury and cannot perform, fixing costume pieces that are not strong enough to withhold the rigours of the dance, and to acquire confidence within the space and stage. Each class is given 10 minutes on the stage to work all of these issues out. That means dancers need to arrive 20-30 minutes before their time, and can leave once they have finished, although many dancers like to stay and watch as they will not have much opportunity to see the other performances on Recital day.

Photo Day

On Photo Days we arrange for a professional photographer to come to Pegasus so every child has the opportunity to get an individual picture and a picture with their class taken in their recital costumes. The cost of the pictures is organized through the photographer as is all payments.

1.     Photographs are taken during regular class time. Dancers come 20 – 30 minutes before their class begins with any accessories needed as posted on the ‘Accessory Chart’ on the Recital Information Boards. At this time they get into their costumes and get dressed.

2.      Order forms can be printed from our website or picked up and filled out at the time pictures are taken.  A completed order form with cash or cheque (made payable to Katherine Axcell Photography) must be given at that time in order to purchase photographs. A separate form and payment is required for each class that photos are being purchased for.

3.     EVERYONE will be in the class photo even if you do not wish to purchase photos.

4.     Go to your class at the regularly scheduled time.

5.     Classes will be taken to the stage in Studio A for class photos as a group by the teacher. Any individual photos will be taken after the group picture.

6.     Classes will continue in costume. This is also a rehearsal to make sure that any adjustments or problems can be solved before recital day.

7.     Be prepared and be patient! No parents will be allowed into the photo area.

Recital Flowers

As a convenience to our families we arrange for a florist to be present at all of our Junior and Senior Recitals for your convenience. Various sizes and styles of bouquets and single flowers are available for purchase.

Backstage At Recital

Backstage at Pegasus Recitals can be quite busy. At the Senior Recitals we organize over of 200 students per show. This means we need to be organized! There are a few backstage tips and policies for dancers and families of dancers to help keep backstage running smoothly so that the show can run smoothly.

·         All dancers are required to attend dress rehearsals If a dancer needs to miss dress rehearsal they need to discuss with their teacher the appropriate course of action. They may be asked not to participate in the recital.

·         All dancers need to arrive 45 minutes before the show begins with hair and make-up done.

·         During the show dancers may not leave the backstage area and parents or audience members are not allowed to go backstage, even during intermission. This is for the safety of the dancers. We are responsible for over 200 students and have audiences of over 600 people, we cannot ensure that each student is safe at all times if they leave backstage, or that each adult backstage is actually a parent or relative. If you need to leave or pick up your child at intermission, it must be pre-arranged with our office before the day of the show.

·         Dancers may not eat in or around their costumes. Water is the only thing allowed if near or wearing a costume.

Accessory Charts

We post accessory charts for each class in April. These give all the information required about hair styles needed for each piece and any additional costume items that need to be provided by the dancer. Please see the "General Information" page under "Recitals" for the Accessory Charts listed by teacher.
