The examinations are held in the spring, March-May. Specific dates are determined by the Royal Academy of Dance. Examinations Examinations are for students taking two or more Ballet classes of the same level per week; this is the required amount of training needed to be successful in an exam. Students are asked by the examiner to perform the majority of exercises from the syllabus of the Ballet level they are studying. The examiner marks them based on elements such as performance, musicality, technique and several other categories. Students are given one of the following four grades by the Examiner... Distinction (75-100%), Merit (55-74%), Pass (40-54%) or Standard Not Attained (0-30%) grade. Each successful student receives a certificate and a mark sheet from the Royal Academy of Dance. Examinations require a high level of dedication and determination. Students are given additional classes in order to prepare for the exam. An additional exam class schedule, exam entry form and exam dates are posted in the New Year. Presentation Classes A Presentation Class is similar to the examinations however students are not marked. The students enter the exam room with their teacher and the teacher leads them in a presentation of the syllabus exercise for the examiner. The examiner gives the student written feedback at the end of the exam and a certificate from the Royal Academy of Dance. Students do not receive a numerical mark. Presentation Classes are a great way for students to get accustomed to the process of examinations. It is also a wonderful goal to work towards without the pressure of being marked by the examiner. The dates of the presentation classes and the entry forms are posted in the New Year.
