Description: The first level of the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus includes exercises that are designed to teach students rhythm, proper foot and hand use, coordination and posture, among many other fundamentals of Ballet. Stretched feet, jumps and soft, expressive arm movements are just some of the elements that are worked on in the Pre-Primary Ballet classes.

Description: Building on the foundations established in Pre-Primary Ballet, the Royal Academy of Dance Primary syllabus continues to establish the foot and leg, hand and arm, posture and jump elements of Ballet technique and begins to incorporate more difficult steps as well as choreography and free movement work.

Days: Wednesday 4:30-5:30; Saturday 12:30-1:30
Description: In Grade 1 Ballet students begin the structure of barre work to warm up and learn new technique, centre work to implement the techniques learned at the barre, free movement and character work as well as longer pieces of choreography. This level follows the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus and students may participate in the RAD examinations in the spring.

Description: Following the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, Grade 2 students begin to incorporate more advanced barre exercises, classical Port de Bras and jump sequences that will be the foundations for more senior level classes. Free movement and character work are also involved in this syllabus and all techniques learned are utilized in the classical dance.

Description: The Grade 3 syllabus from the Royal Academy of Dance is the first year that Ballet students are required to do exercises from all areas of a professional Ballet class. This is a transitional period in the syllabus which is why it is spread it out over two years, as well as to increase the foundations and strength needed for students to begin Pointe work at the age of 12.

Description: Continuing the syllabus work that was started in Grade 3 Year 1 classes, Year 2 will begin the Intensive Ballet program at Pegasus. In this program students need to be in Ballet class twice a week and will have the option to be invited to participate in the Royal Academy of Dance examinations in the spring. Grade 3 Year 2 will build strength and stamina needed for Pointe work and the higher levels of Ballet.

Days: Wednesday 7:00-8:00; Saturday 2:45-3:45
Description: The Grade 4 Ballet Royal Academy of Dance syllabus continues the progression towards Pointe work through strengthening barre exercises designed for the feet, ankles, legs and core. The formal sections of Adage and Petit Allegro are added at this level along with Pirouette preparations. Free movement and character work continue to build from the techniques learned in the lower levels to prepare for the work in the more advanced levels.

Description: The Grade 5 Ballet syllabus continues with the advanced work that was begun in Grade 4. Adage, Allegro and Port de Bras sections are more difficult and include more room for creative interpretation. Grand Allegro is added at this level and the free movement and character sections include more advanced dances and complicated choreography.

Description: The Grade 6 syllabus continues to build and increase the technique, however the emphasis is placed on building the artistic expression within the dance through longer exercises based on repertoire from classical Ballets. This syllabus encourages the free movement and character work as well as the classical work from the perspective of performance qualities and dynamics.
Due to the shift in focus, Grade 6 is often taken over a two year period with the examinations occurring in the spring of the second year of study at this level.

Description: Grade 7 Ballet continues the work begun in Grade 6. The focus remains on building the artistic expression of the dancer through longer choreographed exercises. Each exercise is choreography taken from the repertoire of classical Ballets. Students will learn to perform artistically through the advanced work of professional choreographers and dancers.

Description: Grade 8 is the final level of the Royal Academy of Dance Graded syllabus. It focuses on creating an expressive performance as a soloist. Each student will learn repertoire from classical Ballets and if participating in the examination will perform each piece as a solo in front of the examiner.
